half the reason i stopped using tiling wm and moved back to kde is there is not really any full alternative to waybar and waybar crashes frquently for me on both devices
the other half is the gaming experience still kinda sucks outside of kde

ik some of it isn't the fault of niri but i shouldn't have to use gamescope to run a game properly (gamescope also has its own unique jank)

@pancakes Niri is Wayland only, and doesn't do X11 at all, so to handle X11 apps, they utilise an xwayland "wrapper" that handles all of the X11 stuff for them, and just lets them treat the X11 content as a regular Wayland window/app.

The problem is, that wrapper is imperfect. There's a few ways of working around it (including gamescope), and sometimes, you can just manually force the game to run under wayland directly and it will work, but often, the alternatives are janky or painful too.

@ada yeah i'm ok with using xwayland-satellite but in my experience it is quite unstable and it's very easy for one x app to take every other x app with it
