valve should just sell a steam machine with no RAM, i'm sure that'd bring the cost down a bunch for people who already have RAM

i looked it up and damn, the highest end model is $1.4k, at that price just build a gaming computer or buy a PS5, that's just incredible. i'm pretty sure valve has no place in the console industry and i wouldn't be surprised if the steam deck gets killed by this

@mjdxp they released 2/3 of the way into the current console gen and i suspect the next gen will reach similar prices
consumer electronics are getting dire and from what i've heard valve's margins aren't particularly large on this

@mjdxp also i can't see memory prices getting better, just like how gpu prices didn't really get better after the crypto bubble

@pancakes why would RAM manufacturers bring the prices down now that they're so high? it just means bigger margins for them... i'm afraid this will also happen for gas
