Y'know, it disappoints me a lot to hear that modrinth -- the platform that was best known for giving Minecraft modders a place better than Curseforge, which is terrible for many reasons -- was now acquired by a company that is known for...making minecraft microtransactions.
No, not Microsoft. That would've been nuts. Instead, Spark Universe, the company behind Essential Mod
As expected, people did not like this. On Fedi, Modrinth didn't even post about this. According to commenters, the Q&A livestream was comprised of ignoring critical questions in regards to this acquisition.
Needless to say, I am quite disappointed. I had really high hopes when Modrinth decided to drop all investor funding because it wouldn't be sustainable long-term and would lead to the platform going to shit.
This, though? This goes in the opposite direction of that. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that a company primarily built around cosmetic microtransactions a-la Epic Games is not per-se the best partner to go with here after so much trust had been built with Modrinth.
