if anyone wants to fuck around, here is where we're currently at:

the Pantheon XDG portal takes a really long time to start, probably because it's waiting for something else. In the logs it suggested that it couldn't query org.freedesktop.portal.Settings or smth along those lines (unfortunately cleared the logs already); I'd have to check with d-spy/bustle to see what's going on and where data is flowing to figure out what exactly it's waiting for

@pancakes no, it does not need to interop with -gtk directly to my knowledge

@pancakes that's not done by the -gnome portal, that should be done by the parent xdg-desktop-portals
