i know it's probably not entirely in the spirit but i wish arch auto setup xdg base dir
or at least that the wiki didn't just point you at the whole page for env vars and say have fun
anyways using ~/.config/environment.d/*.conf seems good enough for what i need
i only have one desktop user and i can keep it in my dotfiles for future usage
