The new Knives Out film is… 140 min long?

Why?

What is this obsession with making films longer? Is this Bollywood now?

Films shouldn’t be longer than 120 min and I argue that anything above 100 min is too long anyway

If your film is longer than two hours, it’s got too much fat in it

@yassie_j this take is crazy
Movies should be as long as the director thinks it should be. Especially if the genre calls for a longer run time, which a Detective film absolutely does.

I don't think a film that's inspired by classic mystery novels can achieve everything it wants to from a narrative standpoint in less than 2 hours, same goes for a bunch of other movies (Avatar, OBAA)

We live in a world where studios actively call for shorter run times for better box office profits, Fantastic Four comes to mind which suffers from having 15-20 minutes missing from it. I think having people like Rian Johnson, Matt Reeves and Paul Tomas Anderson fighting to make the films the length they want it to be is undeniably a good thing.
