@pancakes@Houl@volpeon smithereen already had it but this is really the only blocker for it being mainstream. pleroma and gts also has to do the same but iceshrimp and misskey can Just Make It Happen (assuming we're fine with breaking existing mentions in posts), like, right now (mastodon and pleroma both support remote username changes already)
