like, let's be real do they actually have a redeeming quality anymore
they've made cool stuff in the past, sure, but what are they doing now that's actually good?
over the past decade and a half we've had: - copilot - a literal screenshot/keylogger (it's super secure bro trust me - data stored in plain text) - insisting on collecting as much user data as possible (user consent dubious) - windows subsystem for linux - mixer (remember that?) - windows on ARM - windows on ARM (for real this time) - windows on ARM (for realsies this time we're working with qualcomm on this one it'll be great pinky promise 🥺) - windows on laptops (sleep mode go brrr) - whatever the fuck is going on with windows UI fragmentation - whatever the fuck is going on with xbox - Acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft - acquisition of all the other game studios microsoft has later fried - onedrive - windows bluetooth stack - the current state of minecraft
@ari what microsoft did to mixer (previously beam) is a real shame. the platform actually had potential and in particular i remember its latency being really low. that was one of their main selling points but was true in my experience
@pancakes technologically it was incredible! it never got a good community foothold though, so it plummeted. even youtube's livestreaming service only appears to be active in small pockets of communities. twitch is ultimately where you go for the streamers and the Chat™️
