and not shockingly people put up with this, because discord at first was objectively a good and simple chat application. Now that everyone is locked in, now they're now tempting their user base to pay a subscription for chat software

people need to start looking for alternatives, because discord is either going to get way worse or not exist at all in the coming years. The only reason they've been up for so long is because VC investors keep pouring money into this company

"the alternatives suck" yeah and discord sucks too. Their mobile app (especially for android) sucks and is borderline unusable and them constantly shoving paid services into your face is horrid.

and, as a user of said alternatives, they don't suck as much as modern day discord does

@itzzen matrix can be extremely annoying but if discord users just use it unencrypted (just like . discord . and its still not in the hands of a corpo) it works basically perfectly fine . >90% of the issues with it are encryption based =w= . there are also plenty of great clients across tons of platforms

@eris @itzzen SchildiChat, Fluffychat, Vinny and Fractal are all nice. matrix encryption is horrible though. I can't even say hi to someone without their response failing to decrypt
