i think declarative distros like nix and atomic distros like fedora atomic and ublue are both interesting but i don't think i could use them long term. i find both of them run into the same issues where if you want to use a random binary/script one time or are doing more niche things like modding older bethesda games they kind of just get in the way. atomic distros in particular feel too restrictive to the point where it hinders regular computer users that are sometimes the target audience (with claims that it's harder to break). for me i found editing my nixos configuration tedious after a few months. my friend who was trying bazzite found that flatpaks weren't great for her use cases (modding). i've gone back to arch and she's now trying fedora (separately) and i think we're both having a better time.
