@foone ok serious idea here for how it could work, as a fedi developer. how about a system where instance admins can create two types of labels, self-assignable and mod-assignable. self-assignable can be added and removed from your profile by yourself and federates to other instances. mod-assignable can only be added or removed by moderators and are local only. also in this case labels would visually be a unicode/custom emoji and a text field.
@zvava i appreciate that valve considers hardware modders for their devices and makes it possible then they talk about what can be done and the examples are things that are really fucking cool but they just dont make/sell it themselves (machine eink monitor, frame color camera)
@zvava i hope not. it could be that they've decided they don't want to do a simultaneous launch and are waiting for the machine queue to clear up a bit it could be that they're waiting for steamos 3.9 which should have better frame support from what i've heard it could be that they don't have all of the regulatory approval they need, we did see new fcc filings only a month ago
